DSLV Sixth Form

Welcome to the Sixth Form.

Choosing a Sixth Form and making Post 16 course choices is an important event in your life, one which we know is crucial in opening the door to future opportunities.

In order to help you to make DSLV part of your choice for 2017 we have:

· Joined with The Parker E-Act academy, to ensure we can offer between the two schools many more courses than would normally be available. This makes it possible for DSLV students to study either:

o Facilitating A-Levels

o Highly valued vocational BTEC courses

o A mix of BTEC and A-Level courses

· Our offer also helps ensure that subjects such as languages, music, drama and art, which many schools are not able to run due to small numbers, are on offer.

In addition to our level 3 offer we also understand that some pupils will not attain the grades needed to access A-Level or L3 BTEC courses. To help everyone access Post 16 education we will therefore be offering a three year Post 16 pathway which:

· Allows students the opportunity to re-sit English and Maths

· Study a level 2 course with a pathway to level 3 study

We believe that these changes will enable us to support more current Yr11 DSLV students with a pathway which leads to university or further studies. We also hope it will be attractive to you because:

· We understand you, our students and have altered our curriculum to providing courses that build on your interests.

· We believe that the quality of education is about the quality of staff and can vouch for our excellent teaching teams, who have been to some of the best universities and are ideally suited therefore to help you achieve your goals

· We are in 2016/17 being supported by other outstanding schools locally to ensure that the quality of teaching is the best it can be across all our subjects.

We are looking for you to make an application to join us at DSLV if you:

· Are ambitious and give your studies your full commitment

· Are willing to work hard to overcome personal barriers to achievement

· You are committed to getting involved in Sixth form life and making a difference at DSLV

With your hard work and our support we expect to be able to proudly boast that everyone who wishes to attend university will be able to. In previous years DSLV have sent many students to prestigious universities including:

  • Kirsty Barron studying Molecular Chemistry at Imperial College London
  • James Kennedy studying Chemistry at the University of Nottingham
  • Oliver Sanderson studying Mathematics at the University of Nottingham
  • Alison Barron studying Biomedical Science at the University of Sheffield
  • Paige Kennedy studying Archeology at the University of Worcester

No written information can give the answer to all your questions, so please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries having read this prospectus.

We look forward to your application.
